We'll let you in on a little secret: We don't like the word "agritourism" (because our clients aren't "tourists"), but here in Italy everybody uses the word "agriturismo," which is difficult to translate precisely. Whether you call it
a "country vacation," a "homestead holiday" or a "farm stay," it's a delightful departure from the ordinary. Agritourism is a few days spent on an Italian farm. The Sicilian countryside is unique, and for less than the cost of a four-star "tourist hotel," you'll enjoy the experience of a lifetime. It's the rural Sicily of the Sicans, Greeks, Saracens and Normans, with a healthy dose of wholesome nineteenth-century hospitality. There are a number of these farms in Sicily. We represent genuine historical country estates, rather than newer farm resorts established to cash in on the growing interest in agritourism. In other words, only the best establishments. This is the real Sicily...
The Place
Discover the Sicilian countryside in tha Madonie Mountains on a working farm overlooking our island's picturesque northern coast. Located near Termini Imerese and Cefalù, a charming town nestled in the hills, this unique estate is set amid olive groves and grassy fields. Ride the horses (the owners raise several local breeds as well as Arabians), hike in the countryside, take a dip in the pool and enjoy the local cuisine. Most of the fruits and vegetables are grown right here on the farm, while meats and cheeses are grown locally.
The country setting is truly stupendous. Looking southward, you'll see the mountains. Sloping toward the sea are rolling hills of olive trees, artichoke fields and grazing pastures. There are extensive riding trails that you can follow right down to the coast several miles away. Beyond the estate, there's a lot to see. The ancient
Greek settlement of Himera, with its temple, part of a large archeological site, is nearby, and so is the medieval coastal town of Cefalù, with its splendid Norman cathedral. There's a beach, too. For your small group, this unique estate is the perfect alternative to staying in a city or resort hotel.
Accomodations
The farmhouse has seven modern guest rooms in the classic Sicilian rustic style (each accomodates at least two and has its own bathroom), a large dining room and an outdoor terrace. The pool is open in summer months. For the children there's a small play area. Open year round, this traditional Sicilian homestead offers a delightful glimpse into a rural past steeped in thirty centuries of history. The estate can accomodate
as many as twenty guests at a time. Based on the local cuisine, meals feature seasonal dishes and typical Sicilian specialties served in a casual atmosphere.
Directions and Transportation
Local transportation can be arranged for your group to/from Termini Imerese, Cefalù and Himera. Some guests may find it practical to rent a car for a few days to get around on their own. A day or two on the estate is easily included as part of a general tour of Sicily for a smaller group. For larger groups (40 to 60 people), it's possible to plan a brief visit to the farm for a country style lunch or dinner (prices based on the menu selected).
